Just as Ryan would prefer that his art always have a message, he also strives to spend his time working with people and companies that have a purpose as well. Putting a smile on a face has always been more important than putting a dollar in his own pocket.
Oxfam Canada
As an internationally-recognized non-profit organization, Oxfam Canada has been helping people for over four decades around the world. Ryan was drawn to their mission to defend and secure basic human rights, and to promote a world free of poverty and injustice, all through a non-denominational view. When choosing an organization to raise money for after the tsunami disaster of 2005, Oxfam Canada seemed the best candidate.
GPI Atlantic
Through his work with youth during all-ages shows at the Ceilidh Connection cafe, as well as his booking of Fred Penner during the second Oxfam Canada fundraiser, Ryan eventually became involved with GPI Atlantic and their local youth group, GPI Youth. This partnership, which still continues to grow today, has seen Ryan travel as far as Thailand as a youth facilitator during the third annual Gross National Happiness conference. He has also been the web administrator for the organization for several years.
